The Genius Loci

The concept of Local Land Spirits or Genius Loci is a fundamental aspect of Resonance, emphasising the unique spiritual essence of each place.

The concept of Local Land Spirits emphasises the alive-ness and consciousness of all places, whether natural or human-made. It encourages practitioners to be mindful of their surroundings, to treat all places with respect, and to see themselves as guests or partners with the spirits of the places they inhabit or visit.

This practice also promotes a deep sense of place and belonging, countering the rootlessness often felt in modern society. By connecting with Local Land Spirits, practitioners are anchoring themselves in the web of life specific to their location, fostering a sense of home and reciprocal relationship with their environment.

In Resonance, Local Land Spirits would be seen as ever-present, conscious entities with whom humans can and should interact. They wouldn't be worshipped in a hierarchical sense, but rather respected as the rightful "owners" or guardians of their places.

"To belong," the spirits of place whisper, "is to listen. Not just with your ears, but with your feet on the earth, with your hands on the stones, with your heart open to the songs and stories that have shaped this land. Sink your roots deep. Let this place teach you how to stay.
